Over time, UNN has used two different methods to screen candidates:
- O’Level Result Screening (No Exam)
- Post-UTME Written Exam

Method 1: Using O’Level Grades (No Exam)
In the 2024/2025 session, UNN didn’t conduct a Post-UTME exam. Instead, they used your JAMB score and your O’Level grades to calculate your aggregate. The formula was:
Aggregate Score = (0.9 × JAMB Score) + (0.1 × PUTME Score)
Now, here’s how to calculate your PUTME score from your O’Level grades. UNN only considers the four subjects you used in JAMB.
Grading System:
- A1 = 90
- B2 = 80
- B3 = 70
- C4 = 60
- C5 = 50
- C6 = 40
- D7 to F9 = 0
Bonus Tip: If you used one sitting, you’ll be given extra 40 marks. If it’s two sittings, no bonus is added.
Example for One Sitting:
Let’s say a student has these grades:
- English – B3 = 70
- Biology – A1 = 90
- Chemistry – B3 = 70
- Physics – C5 = 50
That gives: 70 + 90 + 70 + 50 = 280
Since it’s one sitting, add 40 bonus points:
280 + 40 = 320
JAMB Score = 296
PUTME Score = 320
Now plug into the formula:
(0.9 × 296) + (0.1 × 320)
= 266.4 + 32
= 298.4 Aggregate
Example for Two Sittings:
Same grades as above, but two sittings:
No bonus this time. Total remains 280.
- JAMB Score = 296
- PUTME Score = 280
Now calculate:
(0.9 × 296) + (0.1 × 280)
= 266.4 + 28
= 294.4 Aggregate

Method 2: If UNN Conducts a Post-UTME Exam
If UNN decides to write a Post-UTME exam, they switch to another method. This time, it’s a simple average of your JAMB and Post-UTME scores.
Format of the Exam:
4 subjects (same as your JAMB subjects)
- 15 questions each
- Total: 60 questions
- Each question carries 6.67 marks
- Total possible score: 400
To calculate your Post-UTME score, multiply the number of correct answers by 6.67.
Example:
- JAMB Score = 237
- Correct answers in Post-UTME = 33
PUTME Score = 33 × 6.67 = 220.11 ≈ 222
Now calculate the average:
(237 + 222) ÷ 2 = 459 ÷ 2 = 229.5
So your UNN aggregate score is 229.5
Note: This method is only used when UNN conducts a written exam, and both scores are treated equally (50–50).
