Young Nigerian Lawyer Earns US Master’s Degree in Law and Secures Admission into Nigerian and New York Bars: A Nigerian lawyer, Isreal Olawunmi, has recorded a notable achievement after completing a Master of Laws degree in the United States and gaining admission into both the Nigerian Bar and the New York Bar.
Isreal Olawunmi, a native of Ketu in Lagos State, began his academic journey in law at Ekiti State University, where he obtained his LL.B degree in 2019. He moved forward to the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2020. After gaining practical experience in Nigeria, he chose to advance his legal education overseas.
He enrolled at the American University Washington College of Law, where he earned a Master of Laws degree in Intellectual Property and Technology Law in 2022. He prepared for the New York Bar Examination while managing his academic work and professional responsibilities.
His effort and discipline led to success in the examination, and he received admission into the New York Bar. With this development, he now has the right to practice law in both Nigeria and New York. He described the accomplishment as a major moment in his life and expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and mentors for their steady support. He dedicated the achievement to his late mother in her honor.
As a lawyer with dual qualification, he advises young people to stay committed to their goals and continue their efforts even when challenges arise. He has strong interest in international legal opportunities and long-term professional growth. Foreign-trained lawyers who want to practice in Nigeria must complete Bar Part I at the Nigerian Law School.
