Advice for UNN Aspirants 2025/2026: If you chose the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) as your first choice this year, here’s something you need to know:
Getting admitted into UNN isn’t based on your JAMB score alone. Yes, your JAMB result matters but that’s just part of the whole process.
UNN also conducts a Post-UTME exam or may use the screening method, which involves checking both your JAMB score and O’level results. That means your WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB grades will also be used to calculate your screening score or aggregate.
So, if you’re aiming for admission, don’t rely on JAMB alone. Make sure your O’level results are solid, and prepare well in case the school conducts a written Post-UTME.
Tips:
- Check the official UNN website for updates on the screening method they’ll use this year.
- Keep your documents ready and stay alert for deadlines.
Advice for UNN Aspirants on the Methods UNN Uses to Calculate Aspirants’ Aggregate Score
If you’re an aspirant of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), it’s important to know how your average or aggregate score is determined.
UNN typically uses two different methods to calculate this:
1. Post-UTME Method (JAMB + Post-UTME)
2. Screening Method (JAMB + O’level results)
All official information about UNN admissions is always released on the school’s website www.unn.edu.ng. Make sure you follow updates there, and we’ll also post reliable updates here to guide all UNN aspirants.
1. If UNN Uses the Post-UTME Exam Method
Your aggregate score is calculated using this formula:
JAMB score + Post-UTME score ÷ 2 = UNN average score
Note: Both JAMB and Post-UTME scores are over 400.
Example:
If an aspirant named Obi scored 230 in JAMB and 245 in UNN’s Post-UTME, here’s how to calculate his average:
- 230 + 245 = 475
- 475 ÷ 2 = 237.5
- So, Obi’s UNN average score is 237.5
2. If UNN Uses O’level Screening Method (Without Post-UTME)
UNN may use a screening ratio like:
60:40 (JAMB : O’Level)
or sometimes 80:20 (JAMB : O’Level)
Let’s use the 60:40 method for this example.
Formula:
- Multiply your JAMB score by 0.6
- Multiply your O’level/Screening score by 0.4
- Then, add the two results together
 Example:
If your JAMB score is 280 and your screening score (based on O’level) is 310:
- JAMB: 280 × 0.6 = 168
- Screening: 310 × 0.4 = 124
- Aggregate Score = 168 + 124 = 292
- So, your UNN aggregate score is 292
Note:
As of now (2025/2026 session), UNN has not yet officially announced whether they will conduct Post-UTME or use the O’level screening method.
But whichever method is used, here’s something every aspirant should understand:
A person who scored 267 in JAMB and someone who scored 195 are both still in the race. If the person with a lower JAMB score performs well in the Post-UTME, they can still compete for admission.
For example:
If you want to study a competitive course like Nursing Science and scored just 200 in JAMB, don’t give up just aim for 350+ in Post-UTME (if conducted). Admission is possible if you meet the final cut-off mark and perform well.

Facts About UNN Departmental Cut-Off Marks
One important thing every aspirant of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) should understand is that departmental cut-off marks are not fixed. They change every year – depending on certain key factors.
So, don’t rely completely on last year’s cut-off when planning your admission chances. Why? Because it might either favour you or work against you, depending on how applicants perform and how many people applied for the same course.
What Affects UNN Cut-Off Marks?
- Number of applicants per department
- General performance of candidates in JAMB and Post-UTME/Screening.
- Available admission slots
- ELDS – Educational Less Developed States and admission Catchment Areas.
Read more later about ELDS – Educational Less Developed States
These are what determine whether a cut-off mark will go higher or lower in a particular year.
FOR Example:
Let’s take the Department of Accountancy as a case study:
Two years ago (based on internal research), the primary cut-off mark was around 240.
But last year, it dropped to 230, and the supplementary list accepted candidates with 220 and slightly below in later batches.
Now in 2025, nothing has been released yet so it’s still possible for the cut-off to go up or down, depending on how applicants performed this year.
My Personal Advice:
Don’t stress too much about the exact cut-off mark just yet. If you’ve done your best, just relax and wait you might be among those who get lucky this year.
Also, keep checking www.unn.edu.ng for official updates. And stay with us here we’ll share all verified news and changes for the 2025/2026 admission exercise.
Candidates Aspiring for Competitive Courses
Simple advice, some cut-off marks for some Competitive courses don’t change that much, like Medicine and Surgery, Law, Nursing, Pharmacy etc cut off marks don’t always fall that much, for you to have a good chance to get medicine and surgery your average score should be from 290 and above, then for Nursing , Pharmacy, Law etc, your average score should be from 270, 280 and above, the higher your average score the higher chances you have to gain admission in your desired course in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN (based on the total performance of candidates that applied that year)
Remember:
The purpose of this post is to enable you to prepare and know that you can still achieve your dream and study your desired courses, even if you didn’t get into the course you primarily want you can later shop for another one, through the Shopping Form, I will explain later about the shopping form in our Next post.
What is UNN Advert/shopping form?
The UNN Advert/Shopping Form is an application form used by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) for candidates who did not initially gain admission into their desired course of study. This form allows candidates to apply for admission into other available courses with vacancies. It is typically used to fill remaining spots in various programs after the main admission process.
If I buy the UNN shopping form is it a must I will be given admission?
No, applying through the UNN Advert/Shopping Form does not guarantee admission. The decision depends on several factors, including the availability of spaces in the desired course, the competitiveness of other applicants, and your academic qualifications. It’s essentially another opportunity to be considered for admission, but it’s not a certainty.
Is the UNN Advert/Shopping form out for 2024/2025 Academic session?
No, the UNN Advert/Shopping form is not yet available for purchase.
I will update you all in this page immediately the form is available for purchase.
