Benedict Ater Breaks Record at Call to Bar, Goes Home With 18 Awards: I want to talk about someone that really made history at the Nigerian Law School. His name is Benedict Ater, a graduate of Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAUM), Makurdi. At his call to bar, he went home with 18 awards, including the big one—the Council of Legal Education (CLE) Star Prize.
Let’s stay for example, how many students go through Law School and even manage to win one or two awards? But Benedict did not stop there, he gathered eighteen. That’s why many people are saying his story is not just about books, but about hard work and character
From Makurdi to the National Stage
Benedict studied at Moses Orshio Adasu University, which many of us still call Benue State University. I have seen how the school has produced great minds before, but what he has done now has put both the school and Benue in the spotlight again.
The List of Awards
I will not even lie, the list of awards is long. Let’s check it:

- Overall Best Student of the Year
- Most Promising Student of the Year
- Best Student in Professional Ethics and Skills

Words from Leaders
During the ceremony in Abuja at the Body of Benchers Complex, the DG of Nigerian Law School, Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, reminded the new lawyers that what will follow them everywhere is their reputation. He said lawyers must protect their honesty and professionalism.
Also, Olukayode Olaiwola, Chairman of the Body of Benchers, added that young lawyers should show fairness and respect in their practice. I have to say, advice like this is what will guide them beyond the awards and certificates.
Pride for Benue State
The Attorney General of Benue State, Timothy Yangien, was also full of praise. He said Benedict’s success was expected because of his record of brilliance. In his words, the win has brought pride not just to Benue, but to Nigeria as a whole.
Benedict Speaks on His Journey
Benedict himself said he has always been consistent. From primary school to university, he was always coming out as the best. Now at the Law School, he has done it again.
