UTME Candidate’s General Requirements for Admission through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB)

Applicants taking the University Matriculation Examination (UME) may be admitted to the first year of a degree course if they meet the following criteria:

They have completed a full course at a secondary school or an approved equivalent institution.
They are at least sixteen years old by October 1st of the application year.
They achieve the required standards in the entry examination for their chosen degree program.

They possess one or more of the following qualifications:

The Senior School Certificate (SSCE), National Examination Council (NECO), or General Certificate of Education (GCE) O’Level with at least five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in no more than two sittings (except for medicine applicants, who must have these qualifications in one sitting).
The Teacher’s Grade II Certificate with merit/credit level in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in no more than two sittings.
Qualifications approved by the Senate as equivalent to the above.

Through Direct Entry

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Have at least two principal or advanced level passes, plus five credit passes at the SSCE/NECO/GCE O’Level in no more than two sittings, including English Language and Mathematics.
Passes in two major subjects in the NCE with O’Level credits or equivalent in three other subjects (mainly for education courses). Education is accepted as a third A’Level subject.
Other qualifications acceptable to the Senate as equivalent to the above.
