The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that she attended a well-known boarding school in Enugu State. She explained that troubling events began shortly after her first year. She begged her parents to withdraw her from the school because of the negative influences she witnessed. While her father was reportedly open to the idea, her mother strongly opposed changing schools. This disagreement at home resulted in her being sent back to the boarding school despite her repeated pleas.
Drawn Into a Harmful Circle
She shared that senior students later approached her, offering protection and friendship. Believing that joining them would make her feel safer, she agreed. She later discovered that the group was involved in dangerous and abusive activities. The woman alleged that she was pressured into attending a night gathering, where she was given a drink and later lost consciousness. When she regained awareness, she experienced severe physical distress, which the other students dismissed as normal. She said the abuse continued as she struggled to fit in and feared speaking out.
Health Crisis and Unsafe Medical Decisions
While still in school, she became pregnant. She was persuaded to end the pregnancy through unsafe means rather than seeking proper medical care. This decision led to serious health complications, including persistent pain and infection. Her condition worsened until school authorities contacted her mother, who took her to the hospital. Due to fear and shame, the young girl hid the true cause of her illness during treatment. Although she recovered enough to return home, the damage had already been done.
Lifelong Impact
Years later, after getting married, she was diagnosed with a womb-related condition that left her unable to conceive. More than a decade after the incident, she remains childless. She shared her story to raise awareness and urged parents to listen to their children, emphasizing that early intervention could prevent irreversible harm.
“If I had been listened to, my life would have turned out differently. I just want parents to be vigilant and take their children seriously,” she said.
