Blessing, a remarkable Nigerian woman, has achieved a significant milestone by completing her studies as a physiotherapist at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). Although her academic path extended beyond the usual five years to seven, she displayed immense perseverance and commitment to her studies. Throughout her journey, Blessing earned eight distinctions and was honored as the Best Graduating Student in one of her core courses.
She obtained her Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation (BMR) in Physiotherapy from OAU’s College of Medicine. After successfully completing her studies, she took to Twitter to express her joy and gratitude. “After seven years of hard work, the moment is finally here. I’ll be getting my license!” she proudly shared, celebrating her achievement. Her academic excellence is evident in her remarkable distinctions in key subjects, including Prosthetics and Orthotics, Manual Therapy, Community Physiotherapy, Clinical Works, Functional Rehabilitation, Exercise Therapy, Communication Skills and Ethics, and Research Works.
In addition to these achievements, Blessing was also recognized as the Best Graduating Student in the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board (MRTB) licensing exam. This prestigious award further highlights her exceptional dedication and expertise in the field. Proud of her accomplishments, Blessing took the opportunity to reintroduce herself on social media, saying, “Let me reintroduce myself: PT Bamgbelu Blessing T., BMR. PT (Ife) with Hons.”
Her story is similar to that of another Nigerian woman, Antoinette Solomon, who also faced challenges on her path to success. Antoinette graduated as a Medical Doctor from the University of Abuja after an extended eight-year study period. While the standard duration for medical studies is six years, her journey was prolonged due to various obstacles.
Antoinette earned her MBBS degree from the University of Abuja’s College of Medicine after eight years, largely due to the impact of a national lockdown and an industrial strike by the university’s academic staff union. She celebrated her achievement on Twitter, explaining how these setbacks led to the delay in completing her studies.
Both Bamgbelu and Antoinette exemplify resilience and determination in the face of challenges, demonstrating that perseverance, hard work, and dedication can lead to remarkable accomplishments despite delays.
