This post contains a Simple advice for aspirants who choose UNN as their first choice this year (2024/2025): In Unn, your JAMB score alone doesn’t determine your admission. Why? Because the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) don’t just judge with your JAMB score alone, All UNN aspirants and prospective students will also be tested with another exam called UNN post-UTME or by Screening method called O’level Screening.
Which Methods Determines UNN Aspirants Average/Aggregate Score?
The method that determines your Unn average score as an Aspirant is either (JAMB score & post Utme exam score = average score) or (JAMB score & O’level grade screening = average score)
Everything important about UNN will be passed through www.unn.edu.ng the official website of the school, and we are going to post them here on this website, so all UNN aspirants should always pay attention to the guidelines stated by the school.
If the UNN uses the Post Utme method for Her Aspirants then this is how to calculate UNN Average/Aggregate Score:
- JAMB Score + Post UTME score ÷ 2 = UNN average score
- Where Your JAMB Score is over 400 and your Post UTME score is over 400
Example:
If UNN Aspirant Obi scored 230 in JAMB and 245 in UNN post-Utme Score, His average score will be 230 + 245 = 475.
475 ÷ 2 = 237.5.
Which means that 237.5 becomes the UNN average score.
If the UNN Uses the Screening of O’level grade method, then this is the way Aspirants should calculate their Average Score:
UNN uses a 60:40 or sometimes 80:20 ratio for calculating the cut-off mark.
For this explanation, we will use the 60:40 ratio.
Here’s how to calculate it:
- JAMB Score = 60%
- UNN Post UTME Score = 40%
Steps:
1. Multiply your JAMB score by 0.6.
2. Multiply your Post UTME score by 0.4.
For example, if your JAMB score is 280 and your Post UTME score is 310, the calculation is:
- JAMB = 280 x 0.6 = 168
- Post UTME = 310 x 0.4 = 124
- Aggregate Score = 168 + 124 = 292
- So, your aggregate score is 292.
For example, if there will be an exam, which we are still waiting for an official announcement by the school authority:
An aspirant who scored 267 in jamb and someone who scored 195 in jamb is still running the same race, meaning that the person with a lower score can still boost his or her average score if he or she performs well in the post utme exam.
If you are going for nursing and you score 200 (which is poor) just target 350 or closer to that to compete for admission into nursing science. (based on the year cut-off and the performance of the candidate that chooses the course)
But remember that as of now UNN hasn’t announced the method of screening into admissions of the academic year 2024/2025, so always come here for current updates or visit UNN official website www.unn.edu.ng
Facts About UNN Cut-Off mark
Another vital point is this: the cut-off mark for the different departments fluctuates every year, so don’t just fix your mind on last year cut off mark because it can change in your favour or go against your favour, it is only based on how aspirant that choose that particular department/course performs and how many candidates applied for the department.
For instance last two years (the department of Accounting cut-off was 240 but this last year they cut 230 and the supplementary list was 220 and slightly below and so on.
So the cut-off mark usually changes every year. (which is based on the overall performance of the aspirant that chooses the course you are aspiring for)
Candidates Aspiring for Competitive Courses
Simple advice, some cut-off marks for some Competitive courses don’t change that much, like Medicine and Surgery, Law, Nursing, Pharmacy etc cut off marks don’t always fall that much, for you to have a good chance to get medicine and surgery your average score should be from 280 and above, then for Nursing , Pharmacy, Law etc, your average score should be from 260 and above, the higher your average score the higher chances you have to gain admission in your desired course in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN (based on the total performance of candidates that applied that year)
Remember:
The purpose of this post is to enable you to prepare and know that you can still achieve your dream and study your desired courses, even if you didn’t get into the course you primarily want you can later shop for another one, through the Shopping Form, I will explain later about the shopping form in our Next post.
What is UNN Advert/shopping form?
The UNN Advert/Shopping Form is an application form used by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) for candidates who did not initially gain admission into their desired course of study. This form allows candidates to apply for admission into other available courses with vacancies. It is typically used to fill remaining spots in various programs after the main admission process.
If I buy the UNN shopping form is it a must I will be given admission?
No, applying through the UNN Advert/Shopping Form does not guarantee admission. The decision depends on several factors, including the availability of spaces in the desired course, the competitiveness of other applicants, and your academic qualifications. It’s essentially another opportunity to be considered for admission, but it’s not a certainty.
Is the UNN Advert/Shopping form out for 2024/2025 Academic session?
No, the UNN Advert/Shopping form is not yet available for purchase.
I will update you all in this page immediately the form is available for purchase.
