UNN Post-UTME/Screening Eligibility

To qualify for Post-UTME/Screening Registration, you need to score at least 160 in your JAMB. The higher your JAMB score, the better your chances.

As of the time we are making this post, UNN hasn’t released the departmental cut-off mark for Mechanical Engineering, and for many years now, they have not published their departmental cut-off marks to the public. This post is solely to guide you on what you should expect or prepare for if you are an aspirant.

But through our research, as of the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions, the Mechanical Engineering departmental cut-off mark is usually 250 and above. This means that due to how competitive the Mechanical Engineering course is at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, you will need a score of 250 and above to be able to compete for the spaces available

This course is very competitive. If you want a better chance of getting in, aim for 250 or higher in your JAMB, but note that that it doesn’t mean you cannot gaining admission with a JAMB score below 250, there is possibility that the departmental cut-off mark might be low in this years academic session, so please wait for admission if you ha registered for the UNN Screening registration. A JAMB score below 240 still has a chance of gaining admission especially with a Good O’level result and in the subsequent list that’s comes out after tue Primary Admission Lists.

Brief Note on Cut-Off, ELDS and Catchment Area Advantage

While the UNN Mechanical Engineering cut-off mark is usually from 250 and above due to its competitiveness, admission doesn’t rely on merit alone. Candidates from states under UNN’s catchment area such as Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Abia and those from educationally less developed states (ELDS) like Bayelsa, Taraba, and Zamfara etc, may still have an edge even with slightly lower scores.

How to Calculate UNN Post-UTME Screening for 2025/2026

The aggregate score for last year was calculated using this formula:

Aggregate = 90% of JAMB score + 10% of Post-UTME score (PUTME)

Or:

(0.9 × JAMB Score) + (0.1 × PUTME Score)

O’Level Results (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB)

Grade to Points Conversion:

A1 = 90
B2 = 80
B3 = 70
C4 = 60
C5 = 50
C6 = 40
D7 to F9 = 0

For one sitting (using only one result), add 40 extra points.

Example calculation:

If a student has the following O-Level results:

English Language: B3 = 70

Mathematics: A1 = 90

Chemistry: B3 = 70

Physics: C5 = 50

(Single sitting) and scores 296 in JAMB, the calculation would be:

70 + 90 + 70 + 50 = 280

Add 40 points for one sitting: 280 + 40 = 320/400

PUTME Score = 320

JAMB Score = 296

Determine the UNN Final Aggregate Score

Aggregate = (90% of 296) + (10% of 320)

= (0.9 × 296) + (0.1 × 320)

266.4 + 32

= 298.4
