UNN Suspends Student Union Activities: The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has officially suspended all activities of the Student Union Government (SUG) on the Nsukka campus.
I want to explain what really happened. On Friday, September 26, 2025, the school management held an emergency meeting where they agreed to put an immediate and indefinite stop to the SUG’s activities.
This decision came after several media publications and counter-publications started spreading around. Let’s stay for example, some of these reports carried heavy allegations that could disturb the peace and order on campus.
Because of that, the management decided it was better to act quickly. I will say it clearly — for now, all SUG meetings, gatherings, and activities are suspended.
The Vice-Chancellor has already set up a committee to look into the crisis and the allegations against the union leaders. We are still waiting for the report, but until then, the suspension remains in place.
During this period, the Dean of Student Affairs will be in charge of handling student welfare issues. I have to point out that students are advised to remain calm, law-abiding, and focused on their studies. Let’s check it this way: even if it looks like a tough step, the school says it’s for the stability of the university environment.
To clear all doubts, here is the official memo released by the university management:
The memo read:
LETTER OF INDEFINITE SUSPENSION OF STUDENT UNION ACTIVITIES
This is to formally bring to the notice of the entire university community and all concerned parties that the University Management at its Emergency Meeting held on Friday, September 26, 2025 approved the immediate and indefinite suspension of all activities of the Student Union Government (SUG) on the Nsukka Campus of the University of Nigeria.
This difficult decision has become necessary following recent circulation of media publications and counter-publications concerning the Union’s affairs. These publications contain serious allegations that have the potential to disrupt the peace, order, and harmonious academic environment which the University is dedicated to maintaining.
During this period of suspension, which takes effect immediately, all SUG-led gatherings, meetings, and events are prohibited. It is pertinent to note that the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive has instantly set up a committee to investigate the crisis and allegations involving the Student’s Union Leadership and the report of the committee is expected within the shortest possible time. All SUG executive functions are therefore, to be put on hold pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Dean of Students’ Affairs will oversee all essential student welfare matters during this interim period.
The University Administration urges all students to remain calm, law-abiding, and dedicated to their academic pursuits.
Your cooperation and understanding are highly anticipated.
With the assurances of my warm regards.
