Updated List of Universities Approved to Study Law in Nigeria (2026 Official List): The Council of Legal Education has officially released the updated list of 114 universities approved to run law programmes in Nigeria.
According to a circular issued on Friday, only the universities listed by the council have the legal authority to admit students into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme across the country.
The circular, which was signed by the Secretary and Director of Administration of the council, Aderonke Osho, clearly stated that any institution operating a law programme without approval from the Council of Legal Education is acting outside the regulations guiding legal education in Nigeria.
The council warned that universities running unapproved law programmes will face sanctions in accordance with established rules. It also explained that students who gain admission into such unapproved programmes will not be considered eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.
The statement further explained that any university admitting students into a law programme without proper approval is violating the provisions that regulate legal education in Nigeria and will be subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures.
In addition, the council stated that the list of approved universities will continue to be reviewed and updated from time to time as part of its responsibility to supervise and maintain standards in legal education nationwide.
