JAMB Extends 2025 Public Universities Admission Deadline: The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced that the deadline for all public universities to complete their 2025 admission exercise has been extended to Monday, 17th November, 2025.
This information was contained in a recent statement released by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, and signed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Head of Media and Public Relations.
According to JAMB, the extension became necessary to give room for some universities that were affected by certain challenges to finalize their admission process.
Background of the Extension
During the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on 18th July, 2025, and chaired by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, JAMB had earlier fixed 31st October, 2025, as the official closing date for all public universities to complete admissions.
That date was set to help other institutions such as private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions finish up their admission process before the general closing date of 31st December, 2025.
However, due to some recent developments, the Board has now decided to extend the deadline to ensure fairness and inclusiveness for all universities.
Why JAMB Extended the Deadline for admission
In its statement, JAMB explained that two main reasons led to this new development.
1. Appeal from AVCNU:
The Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) requested an extension following disruptions caused by a court order that temporarily stopped the 2025/2026 admission exercise. The order was only lifted on 28th October, 2025, which affected the admission process of some schools.
2. NUC’s New Accreditation List:
In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the National Universities Commission (NUC) on 29th October, 2025, released a list of 229 newly accredited programmes across 37 universities. Since these programmes just received approval, universities needed extra time to process admissions into them.
JAMB Sets Final Admission Deadline for Public Universities
Following these developments, JAMB has officially moved the 2025 public universities’ admission deadline from 31st October to 17th November, 2025.
The Board appreciated the efforts of all universities in trying to meet the initial deadline but made it clear that this new date is final and must be strictly followed.
JAMB also restated its commitment to ensuring a transparent, credible, and fair admission process that aligns with national education goals and institutional autonomy.
Key Points for the JAMB Extends 2025 Public Universities Admissions
- Previous deadline: 31st October, 2025
- New deadline: 17th November, 2025
- Reason for extension: Court order delay and new NUC-accredited programmes
- Important note: No further extension will be granted
That’s the latest update from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) regarding the new 2025 admission timeline for public universities in Nigeria.
