JAMB has set the new deadline for the 2024 Direct Entry (DE) examination registration to Thursday, 11 April. This extension was implemented to address the obstacles that some candidates faced while trying to navigate the security screening measures designed to counter the presence of fraudulent A’level certificates. In response, JAMB has issued an apology for any inconvenience caused to applicants and has pledged to revise the registration process to make it more user-friendly going forward. These measures are meant to ensure that the registration process for the 2024 Direct Entry examination is fair and transparent, allowing eligible candidates an ample opportunity to register and take the exam.
Direct Entry registration is specifically for candidates who possess A’level results and have been admitted to universities in their second year. In 2023, JAMB introduced a new verification system for A’level results after discovering instances of candidates presenting fake results to bypass the required qualifications for Direct Entry.
To address this issue, JAMB implemented strict measures to verify the legitimacy of A’level results, which in turn has slowed down the registration process. JAMB Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede, has outlined 13 acceptable qualifications for Direct Entry registration. These include university diplomas, Ordinary National Diplomas (OND), National Diplomas (ND), Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), Higher National Diplomas (HND), and university degrees.
Additionally, authentic results from A’level examination bodies such as Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB), Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPED), NABTEB Advanced National Business Certificate, NABTEB Advanced National Technical Certificate, NABTEB GCE-A’Level (2015-2021), Higher Islamic Studies Certificate by NBAIS, International Baccalaureate, and National Registered Nurse/Midwifery certificates are also accepted.
JAMB remains steadfast in its commitment to ensure that candidates who obtained their certificates fraudulently are not allowed to benefit from such certificates. The examination body is determined to maintain the integrity of the registration process and uphold the fairness of admission procedures.
JAMB has announced that candidates whose certificate-issuing institutions are on the list of those that have not verified their certificates despite repeated requests will not be allowed to register for the Direct Entry examination until they have completed the necessary verification process. This measure is meant to ensure that only eligible candidates with legitimately acquired certificates are allowed to register for the examination, thereby upholding the integrity of the admission process and preventing cases of certificate fraud. JAMB remains committed to ensuring that the selection process is fair and transparent, and will take the necessary steps to enforce these regulations.
