JAMB has announced the top 10 most applied universities for the 2024/2025 academic session, with the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) leading the list for the sixth consecutive year with 64,143 applicants. This was revealed at the JAMB Policy meeting on July 18, 2024.
University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) – 64,143 applicants: UNILORIN remains the most subscribed or applied university in Nigeria for over six years beating other universities in Nigeria.
Lagos State University (LASU) – 62,601 applicants: LASU surprised every other Universities by appearing second on the list after not being in the top 10 from 2020 to 2022. It was third in 2023.
University of Lagos (UNILAG) – 59,105 applicants: UNILAG dropped to third place this year after being the second most sought-after university for the past three years.
Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) – 55,481 applicants: FUOYE retained its fourth position from 2023. It ranked sixth, seventh, and fourth in 2022, 2021, and 2020, respectively in the most applied universities in Nigeria.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) – 54,495 applicants: UNIZIK moved up from eighth place in 2023. It was third in 2022 and fourth in 2021.

Admission Requirements in Nigeria
Candidates need to take the UTME and score high marks. They also must have Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results with credits in five subjects relevant to their chosen courses, including English Language and Mathematics.
The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, directed JAMB and tertiary institutions to admit only candidates who are at least 18 years old. However, this was rejected by the vice-chancellors, rectors, and provosts present, as candidates had already taken the entrance exam without knowing about this new requirement.
Mr. Mamman then agreed to the stakeholders’ suggestion and reversed the directive, allowing institutions to admit candidates aged 16 and above.
