NECO Announces Deadline for 2026 SSCE Internal Registration

The National Examinations Council, popularly known as National Examinations Council (NECO), has officially announced the registration deadline for the 2026 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal.

According to the examination body, schools are expected to complete the normal registration of candidates on or before Monday, May 25, 2026.

NECO also stated that schools that fail to meet the normal registration deadline will still have a short window for late registration. The late registration period will run from Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29, 2026.

The council further revealed that the registration portal will finally close by 11:59 PM on May 29, 2026. After that date, no school or candidate will be allowed to register for the examination.

In the statement signed by Professor Anthony Ibrahim Oshishi, NECO warned that there will be no extension beyond the approved late registration deadline. Schools and administrators were strongly advised to complete every necessary process early to avoid last-minute issues that could affect candidates.

This update is very important for students preparing to sit for the 2026 NECO SSCE Internal examination because many candidates usually wait until the final days before registration is completed by their schools. In some cases, delays from schools, incomplete documents, or payment issues end up causing unnecessary problems for students. Candidates are therefore encouraged to stay in touch with their school management and confirm that their registration has been completed successfully before the portal closes.

Another important thing candidates should pay attention to is the accuracy of their registration details. Students should carefully check the spelling of their names, date of birth, subjects, passport photograph, and other personal information before submission. Mistakes during registration can later create problems during result checking, admission processing, or other academic applications.

NECO also reiterated its commitment to maintaining a smooth and organized examination process while urging schools and stakeholders to cooperate fully with the council’s timetable.

For many students across Nigeria, the NECO SSCE Internal examination remains one of the major examinations needed for admission into higher institutions. Missing the registration deadline could mean waiting another year, which is why schools are expected to treat the registration process seriously.
