Brief History of Abia State University Uturu (ABSU)

Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) is a state-owned university located in Uturu, Abia State, Nigeria. It was established in 1981 through a State Law by the then Governor of Imo State, Sam Mbakwe. The university began full academic activities in 1985 with the core mission to provide quality education, research, and community service.

Initially known as Imo State University Uturu, it was later renamed Abia State University following the creation of Abia State in 1991. ABSU has grown steadily over the years, expanding its academic programs and infrastructure to accommodate the educational needs of its growing student population.

The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various faculties and has continued to uphold its commitment to academic excellence and development in Nigeria. ABSU remains a pivotal institution in the educational landscape of Abia State and Nigeria as a whole.

ABSU JAMB Cut-Off Mark for All Courses

The ABSU JAMB cut-off mark is 140 for all courses. This was the cut-off mark for the 2024/2025 session. The 140 JAMB cut-off mark applies to all ABSU courses listed below:

ABSU O’Level Requirements for Admission

To qualify for admission into Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), candidates must meet the following O’Level requirements:

  • Five O’Level Credits: Candidates must have at least five credit passes in relevant subjects.
  • Compulsory Subjects: These credit passes must include English Language and Mathematics.
  • Subject Requirements: Other required subjects depend on the chosen course of study. For example:
  1. Science courses may require subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  2. Arts and Social Science courses may require subjects like Literature in English, Government, and Economics.
  • Exam Bodies: The O’Level results must be obtained from recognized examination bodies such as WAEC (West African Examinations Council), NECO (National Examinations Council), or NABTEB (National Business and Technical Examinations Board).
  1. Meeting these requirements is essential for eligibility to apply for admission into ABSU through the UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) or Direct Entry.

ABSU Departmental Cut-Off Mark

ABSU’s departmental cut-off mark, which differs from the JAMB cut-off mark, is crucial for determining admission.

Historically, ABSU has not made its departmental cut-off marks public. If this trend continues for the 2024/2025 session, we will not expect the departmental cut-off marks to be disclosed. However, should there be any change and they are released, we will update this page accordingly.
