Combined Social Sciences (CSS) is a department in UNN that allows Aspirants of UNN to COMBINE TWO courses, especially in the FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES.
Combined Social Sciences, is a department Under the Faculty of Social Sciences it is one of the courses offered at UNN, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
This Amazing department allows Aspirants of Unn to Apply for a Combined Honour Course (Two Courses).
It’s just similar to a course in the faculty of Art called Combined Art.
How will I know my Major department if I’m admitted into combined Social Sciences?
In Combined art, one department will be your major while the other will be your minor
E.g. – if you are combining Political science and Psychology.
Political science will be your major department while Psychology will be your minor department.
What we mean by major and minor is that your major is the department that will prepare your result, their department will be your department and they are the ones that will give you a certificate.
How many Courses will I offer as a combined Social Science student?
As a combined Social science student, you are not going to offer the same course with your major and minor, You will offer almost half of the courses from the Major Department, then fewer courses from the Minor Department, which will make your Course with others to be the same in number, this means that if other departments are offering 10 courses, you too will offer 10 courses or a little different number of courses like 11, the difference won’t be that much.

Yes, combined social sciences are stressful but not as stressful as you think, when it comes to UNN almost every department is stressful, the only thing that makes combined social sciences look stressful more is that you will be attending lectures in two different departments.
You will have to attend lectures in your major department and your Minor department too, but you will only attend lectures of the courses in your course outline.

Subject Combination that you must credit in O’Level (waec/neco/nabteb) before application are:

- Mathematics
Any of these:
- Government
- CRS
- Literature in English
- Commerce
- Accounting
- Economics etc
It’s also good you note that it’s the Clearance Officer in charge of Combined Social Sciences that gives you your Combination based on your WAEC or NECO subject result, you can also be opportune to choose your course combination if you do your clearance on time.
Is it Possible to graduate with first-class in the Department of Combined Social Sciences?
You may find it interesting to learn that, over the last four years, every first-class Political Science department graduate has also been a combined social science student, receiving second-class upper honours in all possible combinations.
Moreover, CSS previously produced the top graduating student from UNN’s 2019/2020 graduating session: ABEL NWANKWO, who received a 4.98 CGPA and was the best graduating student from the Department of Combined Social Science (Religion and Public and Local Government).
Is your certificate going to bear double honours or just from the major department?
All Combined Social Sciences students’ Certificates will bear a Double honour, which is like an additional glory or crown that distinguishes you from others in your Major department.

So so Person named Emeka Udogwu graduated with the degree Bachelor of Science in Political Science/Religion.
But sometimes the head Of the Department (HOD) of the major department you are combining can make it look the same as others by giving you just a single honour certificate.
If your CGPA is up to 3.5, you can switch departments after your first year if you so choose. However, sometimes students of combined social sciences refuse to switch after the first year not because they are not allowed but because they later fall in love with the department.
